Our History
Creative and innovative solutions for business and health leaders.
History:
Data for Decisions was officially founded in 2007, though its heritage starts much earlier. Our testifying expert David Bloom had been well-respected for his consulting work in the areas of life sciences and labor economics since the 1980s. When Lakshmi was thinking about a pivot in her career in the late 1990s, David convinced her to work with him on an employment discrimination case. With David as the testifying expert and Lakshmi managing the data preparation and statistical analyses, their first “joint venture” was a success.
Lakshmi and David continued consulting together, and as demand for their services grew, Lakshmi expanded the team to include founding members Younghwan Song, Joe Grimaldo, and David Kantor — and Data for Decisions, LLC was officially formed.
We like to say that we got our start not in a garage, but at a kitchen table, and we continue to embrace this “kitchen table” culture. We always work collaboratively as a team regardless of seniority — exchanging ideas and discussing our approach — much like we did in those early days before we had office space. We worked in an in-law apartment of the Blooms’ home, and the team would move to the kitchen table to eat and continue working, discussing a project, mulling over analyses, and sparking new insights. We knew the time had come to acquire offices when we had outgrown the kitchen table … and realized that a conference room was a necessity!
We are humbled by what DfD has accomplished since its beginning, and proud of the caliber of talent we attract and retain. As for the coming 15 years? You’ll have to stay tuned to see what our next generation of leaders have in store.
